Hi, I’m Jakob. I have been building things since I was a kid – tape measure in 6th grade shop class, woodworking throughout high school, then bridges, concrete, and eventually masonry. HD Masonry is the company I built because I want the finished work to match the standard I hold on a job site: clean, accurate, and built to last in Southern Oregon weather. 

The path here was not always a straight line. After years of hands-on construction, including times overseas that taught me to be resourceful, I came back to the U.S. and worked solar, commercial concrete, and masonry crews. A side project – a 20-by-45 paver patio – is what locked in hardscaping for me. I chased the trade from an apprenticeship into commercial block work, then into residential projects where I could design fireplaces, foundations, and outdoor living instead of only packing material through the mud. 

I left other companies for a simple reason. Too many jobs were rushed, corners cut, and the person selling the work was not the person responsible for it. I started HD Masonry so the quote, the layout, the stone, and the finish would stay close to the same hands. When a job needs a specialist I bring one in. Our first Carved concrete project as a company, the wildlife images enclosure is an example: I brought in one of the best rock carvers on the West Coast rather than faking a skill. 

I am not a polished sells person. I will tell you if an idea will not hold up. What I can promise is this: we plan the work, we do not install things we would not want in our own yard, and we stay on the details that make a patio, pond, fireplace, or wall still look and function right years later.
